I finally had the chance to download this as a VIP ebook today! I’m enjoying the setup so far. If I had a complaint, it would be that the story seems to be leaping ahead too quickly, but I imagine that’s because this is a mini-series. It must be difficult to cram all that plot into just a few pages.

Am I right in thinking Firebird was inspired by vintage shoujo manga like Swan? I’ve always wanted to see more modern storytelling that drew on classic shoujo.

      Hi Olivia!!
Thank you very much for reading and for the feedback – I really appreciate that ^^
I see what you mean by quick story development and part of it is definitely the shorter format. The other part is that the story goes back and forth between present day and the past. I hope that now that the two settings are more established, the pace will feel more organic (you’ll have to tell me!! ;D )

You are absolutely right in that I am very inspired by the older shojo (and shonen, josei) manga. Moto Hagio is one of my big influences. “Firebird” was not directly inspired by “Swan” though, but by the fact that I inherited a huge Russian ballet library collection from my Mom (and have always had a sweet spot for that form of art ^^). Going through the books about Russian Ballet seasons in Paris and biographies of famous dancers made me want to write a story set in that world.

My feedback was I was surprised how quickly this scene went, was wondering if Luca gets to see this man perform at the live stage
