Technically Booker didn’t consider them friends so Gabe didn’t ditch his friend. I’m not trying to excuse Gabe’s actions but let’s try to see this from his perspective. I think he truly does believe what he says about Booker, and being so gullible and naive it’s easy for him to turn his back on his roommate who didn’t even consider them friends in the first place. Gabe isn’t doing this because he wants to be mean to Booker, Gabe is a nice person at heart (so is Booker), but when two people have beef with each other and truly believe the other to be bad then of course bad attitudes will come out. So i don’t think Gabe knows that Brooker said that ? I believe Brooker and Hal were alone when they were having that conversation. And like i think he means to be mean dude, i don’t know a single person that ‘d say the shit Gabe just said to anyone they didn’t intend to hurt, is not like he made an off hand comment and ended up hurting Brooker unintentionally, all that because he chose to believe the shit he was feed by the sparking assholes he now sees as friends. So i don’t think i can ,in good conscience say Gabe is a nice person, he eat up every terrible story blond asshole told about brooker and now he is even reacting on it , he tough it was appropriated to lash out at the people he lives with just because they showed concerne for him. I do love this comic. But I feel like there are some unanswer questions.
If anyone can answer them that would be awesome.
1. Even though we know so much about Booker like how he is very mature, honest, intelligent and comes from a rich family. Does anyone know anything about Gabe? Things like where did come from, who are his parents, and what was his life like before he meant Booker?
2.Is it me or does Gabe feel threatened by Booker and that is why he lashes out. I mean from what we can tell Gabe does not seem very studious and because of that he reflects himself on to Booker because he can’t handle that he is not that special in the first place? This is probably why he decided to become a Magical in the first place to make him feel special.
3. Also can someone tell me before Gabe became a huge Jerk (even though Im still worried about him) how would you describe his personality?
Gabe is a generally a sweet and kind boy but suffers from lack of maturity and experience. He acts like a child and reacts like a child much of the time and very much sees the world in blacks and whites.
Booker, who already states that he never considered Gabe a friend, is seen as an enemy right now. Someone who is mean to Gabe (from Gabe’s perspective) and because of his naivety Gabe doesn’t try to see things from Booker’s perspective.
Especially since some other people come along and are nice to him and want to be friends with him and treat him to clothes, food, and fun, and these people tell Gabe that Booker is bad. This only reinforces Gabe’s view that Booker really is all those horrible things that they say to him.
I’m not saying Gabe is in the right here, he’s being a major jerk. But it’s also kinda Booker’s fault since he never tried to help Gabe understand him, especially since Gabe is so gullible and easily manipulated. Of course Gabe is going to be drawn to the people who are nice to him and not the person who doesn’t even consider them friends. And since Hal is taking Booker’s side and forming a bond Gabe feels threatened in his own home, as if he were an outsider, and lashes out in that way.
I know everyone is pretty against Gabe right now, but I just want everyone to remember that Booker never earned Gabe’s loyalty and vice versa, so Gabe is simply acting on his own beliefs of how Booker is (as untrue as they are). He truly believes that Booker is mean and manipulative and he’s acting in accordance to those beliefs.
I agree a lot with Gabe’s description and I actually love his character but I do disagree on some points? Like i am trying to understand how the introverted kid with trust issues is at to blame for his roommate being a colossal child .I can’t really see how Gabe is a kind boy , sentimental , childish, outgoing ,energetic and impulsive i can understand , but i don’t remember any time he was truly kind to anyone , he may be more open with his feeling and more trusting of others , but that doesn’t really translates to kindness. I don’t really now about earning loyalty, but at the very least Brooker was polite and even at some extend kind to Gabe , in return Gabe always looked kind of self absorbed to me , he started crying on the shoulder of the guy he is now insulting, then he wanted to became a magical boy , but only if it was fun. Okay but guys, if you say Gabe is just under the Gleam Team’s influence then you are kinda agreeing on Booker here y’know, he is not wrong. He never had a bad experience with Book and yet here he is calling him to his own face things that Tyler would say, things that Booker has heard before let’s be honest here, that alone proves what Book is saying to be true the only thing is that he is obviously snapping and being way harsh for comeback reasons but still the truth in my opinion.
If he did have a bad experience I don’t think he would have been so comfortable around Booker before he met the Gleam Team; I don’t think he would have even questioned Tyler about Booker in that one page when they exit the coffee. If he did have a bad experience then either Booker did something to make up for it or he, assuming he is a manipulative person like Tyler says, manipulated him into ignoring the bad experience or something, it still makes him rather gulliable since he would have believed Booker for a really long time without any problem or confrontation whatsoever and even when he comes face to face with someone who calls his apparent manipulative roommate out for that he didn’t seem to consider it a possibility like an actual thing that happened to him, Gabe just went with the flow and he is still going.
