It’s even greater when taking into account that, all 3 sets of pronouns used in the comments are appropriate in the time (within the comic timeline) the comments refer to.

Will – the protagonist as we currently see, reading the story through a very personal point of view and thoughts – is agender and by lack of a definite preference is referred as “they/them”.

Will as the Margrave remembers in the time of his (the Margrave’s) memories is a woman, and therefore referred to as “she/her”.

Will as the character our protagonist incarnated and is currently interpreting is a guy, and refered to as “he/him”.

The “Had I recognized you earlier” and possibly “I cannot undo the harm I’ve done to you” are likely about the fingers, but yeah, he was definitely involved in the thing Wil has been getting bloody revenge for, and I get the feeling it was a lot more than just one city (which is already huge). Seems to me like he’s basically at least part of the reason why they renounced their identity and became “God’s instrument” (+ a killer) in the first place?

I think Wil might be high nobility of the Clays, before they were conquered. I think the person with her wasn’t necessarily her mom, but maybe a servant who saved her from the fate of her family. Something must have happened to that person too, though.
    Just my theories.
