Oh, it really was the margrave and not Mr. “Be Like Your Dad Oz :/” :o
Ah, you weren’t kidding when you said the gender thing was gonna be discussed soon in this chapter.

Am I the only one who can’t help but feel this is all in Will’s head? : / Idk just this thing that’s been nagging at me since the chapter began.

(Please note, I know of the original story, but I never read iT so I don’t know everything.)

The fingers thing happened for real in the original story (prior to the start of the narration, though), so I’m tempted to think this is legit.

Okay, so is this confirmation Wil is a transgender man= man in a woman’s body? Or is it the other way round? He(?) did say “men” is a snorty way like he(?) wasn’t a man. I’m so confused!!!
… Is Wil agender? Is this a they we’re talking about?

    • Elsa Gernand

I think there is a strong possibility of Wil crossdressing as a man but being a cisgender woman. They(? I’m just gonna use this for now) said “men” rather derisively so I doubt they identify as that, but if they were a trans woman, I doubt the Margrave would recognize/use their proper gender especially after he recognizes them as the previously-assumed male bread thief and while they aren’t appearing particularly feminine. It seems likely to me that they crossdressed as a man without identifying as one so they could have an easier time traveling alone, wielding a weapon, hiding their past identity, etc.

Of course, it’s also very possible that they are agender or otherwise nonbinary. I just think it’s very unlikely they’re a man or male.

I did say trans man not trans woman. That was my first thought. Because the Margrave doesn’t seem very sensitive to that kind of thing (if there is any support for those rights in this world at all). And yeah, that’s a good idea. Cross-dressing woman seems to fit easiest.

I am inclined to concur with the “crossdressing” theory, since in the original comic, Wilfrid referred to herself as a woman at least twice, suggesting that she identifies as a woman, but is passing as a man for some particular reason…

Well, in the original story (if I remember correctly) Oswald was a trans man who had taken on the identity of his dead brother and Wilfred was a woman dressing as a man out of necessity. I don’t know if that will be the case in this version
