      I think this is a flashbash of before Wil was arrested, and is also showing the reason why Wil hates the Margrave.
      If my guess is right, and this is indeed a flashback, then Wil survives. Just with a couple fingers less and a short stay in prison.

        I don’t think this can be a flashback, since going back in pages evidently shows Wil had all fingers intact since the beginning. let’s just hope that things don’t get any worse.

      That’s actually a pretty great depiction of the absurd disconnected thoughts that really do run through your head when you’re in shock! :) (warning, slightly gory talk ahead:) I once accidentally stabbed a plastic part through my hand while folding a folding chair, and my first thoughts were that I needed to finish folding it and putting it away. I also thought that it wouldn’t hurt if I took it out really fast (kind of like the “it’s fine to eat if it didn’t touch the ground longer than 5 seconds” rule).
      Basically your mind goes some strange places when it’s faced with something it never prepared for.
