It’s a reboot and the original comic had LGBT content, but with other characters, these two weren’t (explicitly, at any rate) a thing as far as i remember. So it’s not so much “my gay ship is never gonna happen” as “I didn’t think THESE TWO were really a couple”.
i seem to remember them being together before, though… i think there were at least heavy implications in the first version, but maybe there was some art of them by jen that im drawing from too.

I’ve been coming back to this page at least once or twice a week ever since it came out just to stare at that last panel and sigh happily. It’s just so pretty and tender and makes my heart squeeze.
I just have to tell the tale of how this page specifically the last panel slam dunked me into oblivion.
My friend and I have been reading this comic together, commenting on how beautiful they all were and overall how much we enjoyed it. My friend reads copious amounts of yaoi and kept insisting on the gay. Me on the other hand did not want to assume anything so hastily.
So on this page specifically we were looking at the first panel and she was screaming about how they were so gonna be gay. I, fed up with all the comments, scream back
SHUT UPPPPPPPP THEYRE NOT GAY FOR GODS SAKES
I happened to be scrolling down as I screamed at her and fell into a dark silence as I stared at the last panel.

I have been officially dunked. Her cackles haunt me to this day. She will make me remember this until and especially on my dying day.
