Yeah, lately the weather around here has certainly been serving as an inspiration for the northern winter! I was kinda struck by the number of times I used the descriptor “gray” in Chapter 2 while I was editing it–must be February.
With Demyan, I just picked a Russian name that I liked, a variant on Damian, which seemed easy to pronounce and not too outlandish for the English speaker. (Some other names in the running were Aleksei, Viktor, and Volya.) Although I did worry that Damian was kind of a romance novel name, I feel really derpy for the fact that it didn’t occur to me while I was writing that it sounds not a little like “demon.” It was totally unintentional. Probably my subconscious chiming in “Yeah! That sounds like a good name for a character from the dark side!”
I do hope you end up liking Demyan, though. Chapter two should come out in about a week!
Thanks so much for your nice introduction, Lianne! Anyhoo, I’m Emily, aka gomidog, and yeah, this is my first substantial effort in the prose department. Since I’m into spy fiction and Cold War history, I decided to go with a story set in the 1960’s in a Communist state. I’m super excited to be working with Onorobo on this project, and I really hope people enjoy it.
Also, if anyone here wants to talk about animation stuff, totally hit me up on the forum. As of late, I haven’t been doing quite as much straight-up art direction or animation as I did on some of our previous projects (I’ve been mostly focusing on a lot of tech art and design!) but animation/modeling/comics are all things I LOVE creating and talking about. I’ve got an art Tumblr here, and I hope to post more Kalevia related stuff in the future.
Oh my gosh, I remember picking up Mirror Mind at the MoCCA Comic Festival a few years back. It was a really enlightening look at dyslexia. That’s interesting that the creator is involved in Awake. Pretty Nifty!
